| Bio: | “Ah, ‘tis a tedious story, you would do better not to ask.” Said I. “Nay, I must be satisfied.” Insisted the giant, somewhat unsteadily after his third horn of paint stripper. “Very well.” I began, handling my drink impeccably as always,* “I was birthed in darkest Cheshire, in a small cloth trading town where indoor toilets are seen as a sign of upper class pretensions and the traction engine is hailed as the future of transport. Raised by a healer and a horder, my younger sister and I ran barefoot and innocent, living off squirrels and 20p mixes from the corner shop. I attended a C of E primary school, which was tolerable, and a dilapidated high school of no fixed denomination, which was not. They say who laughs last laughs longest, though. I lost two years of my life, when a local Houngan-cum-human-vivisectionist caught me and kept me doped up as his zombie servant. I helped him in his deranged experiments, robbing graves and fetching and carrying brains. At one point he tied me to a pipe in his basement and forgot about me for SIX MONTHS. I remember little of those days, which were brought to an abrupt end when my captor’s latest creation turned against him, rending his wretched carcass and burning down the laboratory, but I discovered at the end that I had somehow completed a sixth form education. I found myself cast out of Macclesfield amidst accusation of sorcery and treason, and so relocated to Liverpool where I cohabited variously with nymphomaniacs, the Irish, one French woman, homosexuals and psychopaths, some of whom ticked more than one of these boxes. During this time my sister had outgrown me by four inches and developed the immovable strength of a concrete post. She now juggles parallel careers as a cage fighter and exponent of experimental art, heavy on the use of negative space. Ultimately I ended up with a pair of retired buccaneers and an anglo-welsh-chinese warlock, but the honeymoon was over when were attacked by a salty seadog weathering a mid-life crisis, who’s girlfriend the warlock had slept with at a convention. A pitched battled raged for a day and a night on the river Mersey; our enemy’s ship was destroyed and he lay bleeding on the shattered deck, but our own twelve-gun sloop was left barely seaworthy. We were forced to take a small apartment in the city centre where we got under each other’s feet a lot, and shortly after a fled the city nursing a grudge and a degree. I moved to South Manchester and took a house with my soul-sister, where the goddess and I took up our pistols in a bid to subsidise our meagre income from bar work and espionage. We held up a Stagecoach (bus) and made a small fortune in guineas and ipods on our first foray. Pursued by redcoats for our crime, we were driven underground- my companion left Manchester for an undisclosed location and I myself found an inconspicuous hovel where to weather the storm and pass the time by gluing rhinestones onto stray animals.” “You’re right,” sighed my companion, “Nothing to write home about.” * Certain details may have been embellished for narrative purposes.
